WASABI, LETTUCE & PRODUCE
The Lettuce Lady, Helen Cassidy, runs her eponymous certified organic farm spread over 120 hectares at the base of Mt. Strzelecki on the southwest coast of Flinders Island. After beginning her career as an aviation rescue firefighter in Launceston, Helen relocated to the island in 2009 to turn her lifelong hobby of gardening into a commercial reality. Helen’s passion for gardening shines through in the artisanal Tasmanian produce she grows. Certified organic salad bowl mix might be her biggest crop, but Helen has raised her profile by farming Tasmania’s first wasabi, as well as Tasmanian garlic, tomatoes and herbs – all farmed with no waste biodynamic principles in mind.
