Jo & Tom Youl – Our Story

Jo and Tom moved to Flinders about 7 years ago. Jo worked for the local Council for a couple of years then decided to start a business called A Taste of Flinders. The ethos is to provide fresh local food and drink options to visitors and locals. The business has run for over 2.5 years operating out of a small garage in the Butcher Shop in Whitemark. Now Jo and the Taste of Flinders team are expending their operations into a larger shed that they have custom built at the disused site at the Whitemark Wharf.

Jo and Tom as well as running a sizable Angus beef operation on their farm north of Killiecrankie. Tom is full time farming and is a builder in his spare time. Tom and Jo love the lifestyle that Flinders Island offers their family. Most weekends are spent diving, fishing, camping, bush picnics or checking the farm. Tom and Jo love the community, lifestyle and people they meet, whilst living on Flinders, and believe this could not be generated anywhere else.

Tom and Jo look forward to turning the Quoin Farm into their home for the rest of their lives. This will mean building a bigger family home for their growing family. They have plans to plant 1000 avocado trees, grow the cattle numbers to approximately 750 breeding cows and diversify the property into a quality sustainable food and visitor experience. Flinders is a place to be enjoyed by those who love the environment and want to experience something authentic and off the beaten track.
